From January 19 to 27, 2025, at the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, commissioned by the World Federation of Chinese Cuisine, and invited by the Liaoning Hotel and Catering Association, Qi Jiawei, an outstanding sophomore student from our school, participated in an important high-end foreign affairs event. This event coincided with the inclusion of “Spring Festival—Chinese Social Practice of Celebrating the Traditional New Year” in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations. The “Happy Chinese New Year—Walking New Year’s Eve Dinner into Indonesia” series of activities was an excellent opportunity to spread Liao cuisine culture to the world and showcase the charm of Chinese cuisine.
As the foreign affairs secretary of the intangible cultural heritage Liao cuisine catering culture delegation, Qi Jiawei made significant contributions to the successful execution of the event with a high sense of responsibility and excellent coordination skills. He participated in the entire process, including the New Year’s banquet specially hosted by the delegation for Indonesian dignitaries at the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the New Year’s reception at the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, which was attended by over 700 Chinese and foreign guests. This event featured three Chinese food and cultural feasts that combined Eastern and Western elements and connected ancient and modern times. He assisted in visits, foreign affairs liaisons, and cooperation negotiations with renowned Chinese business bridging organizations such as the Indonesian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Indonesian Hakka Association. Qi Jiawei built a bridge for the delegation to communicate, exchange, and cooperate efficiently with all sectors in Indonesia.
During this period, he actively participated in tasks such as organizing relevant archival materials and logistical support, making good use of the knowledge he learned in school in foreign affairs practice. His efforts ensured that every aspect of the event series was carried out smoothly and effectively. Additionally, he systematically listened to the touching stories of the older overseas Chinese, their patriotic feelings, and their efforts to help more Chinese people overcome difficulties. He expressed his gratitude to the school for its training and stated that he would continue to work hard to meet everyone’s expectations of him.
Qi Jiawei’s immersive high-end foreign affairs practice not only enabled him to apply the knowledge he had learned but also allowed him to appreciate the profoundness of Chinese cuisine and culture. Through the unique language of Chinese cuisine, he deepened his understanding of the significance of Chinese traditional food culture in the global era. He is determined to major in international studies in the college entrance examination when he returns to China in 2025, contribute to foreign affairs work in the future, meet the school’s expectations, and become a qualified foreign affairs worker. For his contributions, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, the World Federation of Chinese Restaurants, and the Liaoning Hotel and Catering Association each presented Qi Jiawei with a letter of appreciation, a cup of appreciation, and a certificate of commendation. This not only brought honor to the school but also added prestige to the Philippines!
