Creative Brilliance Shines—Harold Huang Wins Honorable Mention in Draw Epilepsy 2025 Art Competition.

Filipino creativity and advocacy took the spotlight on the stage when Harold Huang, a student of Philippine Chen Kuang High School, earned an Honorable Mention in the 2025 Draw Epilepsy contest under the Digital Art category. His artwork, featuring a dissolving portrait paired with the message “Even when the world shakes, I remain whole,” was praised for its emotional depth and symbolic representation of resilience in the face of epilepsy.
The recognition comes at a time when Epilepsy Awareness Philippines continues to strengthen its campaigns to break stigma and foster understanding. The organization, supported by the Philippine League Against Epilepsy (PLAE), has been leading initiatives such as the Epilepsy School Caravan, National Epilepsy Congress, and the Epilepsy Exemplar Awards, which celebrate individuals who thrive despite living with epilepsy.
In 1993, the Philippine government declared the first week of September as National Epilepsy Awareness Week through Proclamation No. 230. This annual observance underscores the importance of education, treatment accessibility, and empathy. More recently, the #STEPS: Stop the Epilepsy Stigma campaign has mobilized communities nationwide, encouraging Filipinos to take symbolic “steps” toward inclusion and compassion.
School officials at Philippine Chen Kuang High School expressed pride in Huang’s achievement, noting that his work reflects both artistic excellence and social responsibility. “This honor is not just for Harold, but for the entire school community that supports awareness, empathy, and innovation,” administrators said during a recognition ceremony.
With epilepsy affecting nearly 750,000 Filipinos, campaigns like Draw Epilepsy and Epilepsy Awareness Philippines remind the public that resilience, creativity, and compassion remain central to the fight against stigma.
